mErRy ChRiStMaS!!

Hey y'all! MeRrY cHrIsTmAs!!
I'm SOO glad it's Christmas. I have most of my Christmas shopping done. What about you?

Oh, hey, so I realized that quite a lot of y'all don't have blogs, do you? So about that Surprise Giveaway, how I said you could enter twice if you wrote a review on your blog? Well, I changed it up a little, so that way you could write a review and send it to me using email so that way you can enter twice even if you don't have a blog. How does that sound?
I won't post my email unless some of you want to actually do it, and even then, post YOUR email in the comment box (no one will see the comment because I have to look over the comment before I post it, and even then I won't post it so you can have your privacy) and I will email you and you can enter in again!

Cheerio, and Merry Christmas again!

Surprise Giveaway!

I don't think that anyone in their wildest dreams who follow my blog would expect me to do a giveaway! I know I don't think I ever would have; this is such a spur of the moment. I'll tell you what the prize is then how to enter it:

A pretty little notebook I found accidentally when I went shopping a few days ago. I loved it ever so much, and I figured that y'all would too. I took some pictures of it, but it just won't load onto my blog! It's black and has a gorgeous golden cross on the cover, with golden small leaves embroidering the outline of the notebook, and on the right page at the bottom, it has John 3:16 written on it. I promise, I will find one way or another to upload the pictures BEFORE the deadline. Perhaps tomorrow or sometime today...

How to enter:
To enter, you must comment about your favorite book. Just one, please!

To enter TWICE:
If you want to enter in again, write a review on your blog about your favorite book. It can be however short or long as you want it; five sentences to a page. Then comment and tell me that you've written a review and you'll have your name entered again.

Deadline:
It starts today, and it ends December 17th.

How it works:
I'm going to enter in your name once or twice, depending on whether or not you write a review. I will then put your names into a bowl and mix it up extremely well. I promise you, it will be mixed well because I'm sure that Sam and Emmy will help me shake it all up.
Then, I'm going to have my sister Emily choose any piece of paper she would like, and ta da! instant winner. No online randomizer, just one at home, for we are random, as you know. SQUIRREL! See? So random.

Anywho, I hope you enter!
Cheerio and have a good Saturday!
Molly

Jack Mortimer, Private Eye: Part Three

So I was tiredly browsing through my NaNoWrimo story, thinking "Golly, I don't want to write today, I don't want to write today!" But, if I do, I shall get dreadfully behind in writing, and I HATE to be behind with stories.
I won't lie, I sighed and muttered, "Oh...today's Thursday....I don't want to write on Jack Mortimer."
Because it's true, I don't like working on two stories at once. But then, I found a comment awaiting me when I came on to write; a comment from Emma of Tin Lane! (a.k.a. Shirley Holmes) It made me so happy. I was very happy to get correction from someone else, and happy to receive a nice response to my story that put a smile on my face.
So now I'm all powered up again to write! Presenting Jack Mortimer, Private Eye: Part Three...

“Hmm,” I says, writing in my notebook.
Meg leaned over slightly to try to see what I was writing. I pull back, still writing. Meg sighs impatiently and starts tapping her foot. I make an exception for it at first, but it gets on my nerves. Finally, at the breaking point of my patience, I almost yells, “Do you mind?”
Normally you won’t yell at your employers, but tapping feet is one of my weaknesses that certainly can’t help but get on my nerves.
“What?” Meg says innocently, still tapping.
“Your tapping…,” I says through my teeth.
“Oh, of course,” Meg stops. “I didn’t mean to ruin your concentration.”
I begin to write again. “Oh, yeah, wanna seat?”
I barely stop writing to gesture.
“Thank you for being so hospitable,” Meg says, her voice dripping with sweetness. I can see why, though, for I should have offered her a seat a long time ago. My bad. But I didn’t real feel bad.
“Well, Miss Margaret, I have all the information I need for now,” I says.
“Oh, really? That was…,” Meg searched for words. “…short.”
“Yes, but I would like to make an appointment to see you again,” I adds. “How about…”
What’s today? Oh. Friday.
“How about Monday?” I asks.
“Oh, but I’m having a party then!” Meg protested. “My first masquerade one!”
“Well, I can dress up as a detective and meet up with you,” I suggests. “Perhaps I can meet your fiance then, too, if he’s there?”
“That sounds marvelous!” Margaret clamped her hands together. “I’ll be dressed like Joan of Arc.”
I nods. The singer left after that.
I smiles as I lie in bed. I know exactly what I want to wear to that party.

Weekends fly by to fast. Before I could realize it, it was Monday. I pulled out my costume and left for Meg’s house.
It didn’t take long, or at least it didn’t feel long before I was knocking on the door.
A doorman dressed up more than I ever cared for opened up at the first knock.
“Invitation?” he requests.
“Uh…don’t have one, not a physical one, at least,” I smiles my best. I had a sinking feeling that it was rather gruesome looking, since I hadn’t smiled in so long.
The doorman took a step back, holding a hand to his mouth. I heard a strange noise come from him, and realized that he was holding back a laugh.
“No invitation, no entrance,” he said after he was quite finished with his little laugh.
I glowered. “Get Margaret Simmons. She knows me.”
“Wait here, please…sir,” the doorman chuckled and slammed the door on my face.
Literally. I held a hand up and said, “Ow!”
The door opened a minute later.
“Ah, Mr. Jack! How are--you came dressed like that?” a woman dressed like Bo Peep said when she saw me. It was Meg, I figured.
“Yes, I did,” I replied. I stepped back. “Like it?”
“That does not look like a detective costume. I thought you said that you would come dressed up as a detective,” Meg said.
“I came dressed up as me,” I said. “And I’m a detective, amn’t I?”
Meg coughed slightly. “Er, yes. Anyhow, please come inside.”
I pouted slightly to myself as I followed Meg. I had picked out my nicest clothes, thank you very much.

Sorry I haven't written very much; I just got back from crossfit and have piano to practice and another story to write on (I have to write one thousand more word than I would like to) and extra school so I can go out shopping tomorrow. I'll try to have more written next week! Thank you, Emma and Clara, for your enthusiastic support!

Cheerio!

SURVIVOR excerpt

I thought I'd share a synopsis and an excerpt from my NaNoWriMo story. So here you are.

Synopsis:
A girl named Summer goes to survival camp for a month just for the fun on of it, but suddenly, after only a week of being there, a gang comes and attacks the camp, making everyone scatter and run for their lives...and find out that the gang is hunting them just for the fun of it, so that way no one can go home or their families will be in danger. Summer must team up with the kids from the camp to find out a way to escape from the gang, before they get killed.

Excerpt:
...we heard crashing from on the ground. Layla and I silenced instantly as we watched about fifteen big, strong men with their muscles bulging come out into the open.
“So, who thought they heard people over here?” one of them asked. He had two guns in each hand, plus several knives in his belt. His hair was in a Mohawk, and it looked atrocious.
“I didn’t think I heard people here, I know I heard people here,” someone else said. “Probably that stupid little group of kids that ran away after we shot their friends.”
I glanced at Willow, whose eyes were filling with tears. I gave her shoulder a squeeze, and she took my hand and held it as hard as she could. It hurt, but I didn’t move my hand. I looked back down at the men.
“Humph,” the first man grunted. “I know you have good hearing, Gary, but I don’t see anyone anywhere. Let’s keep moving.”
Gary and the other men walked on. I strained my ears to hear anything else they might say. I was glad I did, for I heard, “And if anyone tries to leave this compound, we’ll catch ‘em when they get home and kill all of their family members. Hunting kids is so much fun.”
“Not when you die, it’s not,” someone else said.
The men laughed harshly and then I heard nothing else as they continued on.
I looked around in the trees and saw all of the little kids crying.

I imagined Willow looking like Amandla Stenberg. She's just so perfect and pretty. I'm not sure about anyone else, who I'd pick to be them and all.

That's all for today, so cheerio!

Jack Mortimer, Private Eye: Part Two

Oh dear oh dear oh dear me, I've been so caught up with NaNoWriMo and school and people coming over (yes, you know who, Clara, I'm sure :p) that I've sadly neglected this blog and put it away for nighttime. Well, here is Part Two of Jack Mortimer, Private Eye.....

I stares at Margaret for a moment, surprised. Margaret stares at me, too, her eyes full of fear, pleading with me, until tears begin to flow. She looks away as she wipes them, though more come down.
The first thing that comes to mind is, Who on earth would try to threaten Margaret Simmons?
Then, She’s famous and rich! For helping her, she’ll pay a hefty sum.
I walk over to my desk and turn on the lamp.
“Who is trying to threaten you?” I asks, whipping out a notebook and pencil.
“Oh, but I haven’t a clue!” Margaret sobs out. “You see, the first time this started, it was just a note saying…oh wait, I have here in my purse.”
“That’s weird,” I comment.
“What’s weird?” Margaret, whom I decided to call Meg, looks at me funny.
“The note,” I reply. “It says, ‘Oh wait, I have it here in my purse.’”
Meg giggles suddenly, catching me off guard. I watch her, speechless.
“No no no, silly,” Margaret says. “I meant that the note was actually in my purse.”
I gulp. I haven’t made such a stupid mistake for over ten years.
Meg sobers suddenly as she opens her purse, which makes me almost giggle. I’ve never seen anyone sober so fast.
Finally, Meg take three notes out of her purse.
She hands me one of them while saying, “I did what they asked out of pity for them.”

I read:

Miss Margaret:
I desperately need money for food and water. Please help and give me ten dollars and put it at the foot of the Joan of Arc before tonight! Please!
X

“Of course,” I mutter. “X.”
“Naturally, when I gave him the money, I never saw him,” Meg says.
I opened my mouth to ask a question, but think the better of it. Meg hands me the second note.

Miss Margaret:
The ten dollars may have saved my life! But please, I need twenty-five more dollars to help survive longer.
X

I raised my eyebrows at this, and Meg said, “I didn’t give any money that time.”
She looked ashamed. “I put it in my purse and forgot about it.”
I folded the notes perfectly just as they used to be; un-wrinkled creamy paper with perfect, creased lines. It was very pretty.
Meg handed me the last note.

Miss Margaret:
I might have died without those twenty-five dollars you didn’t give me, if it hadn’t been for a kind passerby that gave me some money,
Now, leave one hundred dollars by the Joan of Arc statue or you’ll never see your fiancĂ© again!
X

I re-folded the perfect paper and put that in in my pocket too.
“When did this begin?” I asks, poising to write on my notebook.
“About five days ago,” Meg replied. “The second one came three days ago, then the first one came the day after.”
"Hmm," I says thoughtfully. Then I frown. "It all seems a little...melodramatic, I think."
The actress stares at me. "M-melodramatic? How could you say that? My fiance is being threatened to be killed! How can it be melodramatic?"
"Easily," I says, scribbling furiously in my notebook. "Anyhow, how come it took you two days to find help? Why didn't you get help right away?"
"Oh, this is no matter for the police," she says. "It's not quite enough proof for them, I should think. I spent the last two days hunting for a good private eye to help me. I found out about you this morning, and then had hunt for your address. Everyone raved on and on about you for so long, so it didn't take too long to find where you lived. All those thieves you caught! My, I see why people liked you so much, goodness, for all those ravings I heard all the time."
"Well, you know, it's nothing really," I coughed modestly, growing ever so slightly a shade of pink.
"Then why should I hire someone who asks for so much when it's 'nothing really'?" Meg mimicked my voice.
"Ah, no no no! That's not what I meant!" I says frantically. "I just meant...um..."
Meg laughed gaily. "Got you! I wouldn't want anyone else. Come over to my place tomorrow and we'll talk about other details. Okay?"
"Yes ma'am," I says.
I watch her leave, then I sit down in my office chair.
"Boy, I gotta watch my words!" I says to no one. To thin air. To myself. Whatever.

The Shadow Things: Two Year Anniversary

Description:
The Legions have left the province of Britain and the Western Roman Empire has dissolved into chaos. With the world plunged into darkness, paganism and superstition are as rampant as ever. In the Down country of southern Britain, young Indi has grown up knowing nothing more than his gods of horses and thunder; so when a man from across the sea comes preaching a single God slain on a cross, Indi must choose between his gods or the one God—and face the consequences of his decision.

Jennifer is holding a party for this! Go visit her blog  http://thepenslayer.blogspot.com/2012/11/boorkthday-party-giveaway.html and you can participate in her giveaways; doesn't her book sound SOO interesting?? Even if I don't win, I am SO checking this out at the library; it sounds SO awesome.

Cheerio!

Friday's Findings

There is another sky
Emily Dickenson

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields -
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!

Perfection of a garden, but only in my mind. I wish it were really real; I'd go there all the time.
Oh, and don't forget to scroll down or whatever and read my story bit I posted yesterday, "Jack Mortimer, Private Eye".
Cheerio, and fare thee well!
:)

P.S. And it's just a little note: Huzzah! for Anne Elisabeth Stengl! It's her official release date of her book Starflower.

Jack Mortimer, Private Eye

Here is my story, like I promised!
(sorry it's late at night but at least it's still on the day that I promised!)

Hi. Name’s Jack Mortimer, Private Eye. I’m a pro at cracking cases, finding lost people…the usual. Even when there’s no hope, people ring me up and I’ll find the missing person.
I ain’t got no staff. Just me and a man’s best friend: his gun. And sometimes I could do with a drink.
My office is way down in the slums. No one bothers me, ‘cause no one likes comin’ here, unless they’re truly desperado.
I live in Virginia.
I’ve just come back from cracking the occasional case of robbery. Nuttin’ too much, but it pays well. I casually put my feet up on my desk and light a cigarette.
Then I count the dough.
After that, I stick it in my hidden safe. I don’t spend it much, not even on cigarettes and drinks. I save those for when I’m pleased with myself.
Gotta have some relaxment, as solving cases is too exciting sometimes.
Like the time I got shot in the arm, and later in the leg. My side has a scar from a year ago, when some stupid thief lashed out with his knife. He’s in jail, of course, and will be for a couple more years.
Not that I really care about him.
I dropped the cigarette stub in the trash, not on an ashtray. Ashtrays can make your office get cluttered up, and makes me want to smoke more, but I don’t want to smoke so much, only sometimes.
Suddenly, I am real quiet. There’s silence for a moment, but then I hear it. The distant pattering of shoes on the puddled street. I almost didn’t hear it over the rain, but my left ear never lets me down. Sounds like high-heels, but it could be a cane.
I cock my gun, just in case it’s another wino from the streets. Gotta scare ‘em off somehow, even if it doesn’t mean actually shooting them, which I usually don’t, as theys usually runs off when they see my gun. I duck behind the door as it opens, slowly and cautiously at first. Someone enters, and with the light I use, I can see it’s a woman.
“Mr. Mortimer?” she says. “Hello? Are you there? Hello? Mr. Mortimer! Are you here?”
Good grief, give a man time to answer, lady!
“Are you here, Mr. Mortimer?” she says again.
“Who wants to know?” I said ominously, shutting the door and making myself look menacing.
The lady didn’t utter a cry. She swallowed instead, so that made me realize she was too scared to even scream.
“Oh, Mr. Mortimer! I’m in trouble! I need you desperately!” the lady cries out suddenly. I don’t recognize her really, in my dark office. I wonders who she is. As if reading my thoughts, the lady says, “I’m Margaret Simmons. Please help!”
Margaret Simmons? The famous actress and singer? “Huh?” I says in surprise.
“Please, someone is threatening me!” Margaret Simmons says.

Whatcha think? Please comment and leave your opinion; I need all the critiques and things I can get! :)
Cheerio and good night, everyone! Happy November 1st!
Molly
